Pololu Valley

We start with a driving tour of the Kohala coast with an optional stops at the Hamakua Mac Nut farm, Lapakahi Historic Fishing Village and Kohala Coffee Mill. We’ll pause at the Pololu Lookout and gather our things for the hike to the valley floor. Once in the valley, hikers can check out the black sand beach, explore the trails and learn about the legends of this iconic valley. On the drive back, we will “take the high road”, aka Kohala Ranch Rd. with optional stops to the South Kohala Scenic Point and the Parker Ranch Center for a meal.

The Hike: Pololu Trailhead leads from the lookout down to the valley floor and is generally considered Moderate and steep. It’s about 20 mins down and 30 back up.

Papakolea "Green Sands" Beach

This drive will take us through up to seven microclimates, culminating at one of the island's most unique features. This beach was formed from a mineral deposit, and there are only three others like it on Earth. On this adventure, we will have a chance to leap from the southern-most point of the United States, taste test Kona Coffee vs. Kau Coffee, and 4WD to this iconic olivine beach. Trip time: 5-8 hours | Difficulty: Easy

Optional route stops from Kona- The Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory, South Kona Fruit Stand, South Point Cliffs, Punalu'u Bakery, and Kai Loki's Restaurant.

Optional route stops from Hilo- Mt. View Bakery, Volcano Winery, Punalu'u Bakery, and Volcano's Lava Rock Cafe.

The trip duration will vary based on stops. Four Participants Max: $280 (per guest)

Punalu'u "Black Sands" Beach

This Adventure is relaxing and unhurried. No crowds, no rigid schedule, just a comfortable drive along the southern coast with lava fields, ocean views, and local insight and legends along the way. At Punalu'u Beach, the sand is deep black and warm, formed from lava meeting the sea. Palm trees line the shore, and honu (green sea turtles) often rest nearby. Take in the contrast of black sand, blue water, and green palms. We'll have time to walk, take photos, and simply be present before heading back - easy, quiet, and memorable. Trip Time: 5-8 hours | Difficulty: Easy
